Our Story
A practice built around careful reading.
Pranakorn was established in Bangkok with a specific purpose: to provide intellectual property advisory services that actually help the people running businesses — rather than producing lengthy documents that get filed and then ignored.
The practice grew from an observation that many businesses operating in Thailand — particularly those building brands or developing products for regional markets — needed reliable IP counsel that understood both the Thai registration system and the cross-border dimensions of protecting ideas in Southeast Asia.
Our name reflects something we believe about good advisory work: careful attention, taken one step at a time, produces more reliable results than speed.
From our office on Vibhavadi Rangsit Road in Chatuchak, we work with businesses at various stages — from early-stage companies filing their first trademark, to established operators managing a portfolio of IP rights across multiple jurisdictions.
The work we do is primarily written advisory: clearance opinions, filing strategies, compliance notes, and guidance on how to structure the legal protection around an asset. We work alongside technical patent agents where specifications require specialist drafting, and we refer litigation matters to specialist advocates.
What we provide is the considered analysis that sits before those steps — the reading of where things stand and what the practical options are.

Professional Standards
How we approach our work.
Prior Art & Clearance
Every trademark engagement begins with a clearance search before any application is drafted. For patents, patentability analysis precedes filing advice. This reduces surprises and produces more defensible filings.
Written Output Standard
Every engagement produces a written advisory note — not a verbal summary or a brief email. Written advice creates a record, forces clarity, and gives clients something they can act on and refer back to.
Thai DIP Compliance
All filing work is prepared in accordance with Department of Intellectual Property requirements and current examination practice. We monitor changes to DIP procedures as they are issued.
Client Confidentiality
Information shared with us in the course of an engagement is handled with strict confidentiality. We do not discuss client matters outside the engagement, and we maintain appropriate data security measures for all files.
Regional & International Coordination
Where filings extend beyond Thailand — through the Madrid System, PCT, or national filings in ASEAN countries — we coordinate with reliable correspondent firms and confirm their approach before committing client funds.
Deadline Management
IP deadlines — response periods, renewal dates, opposition windows — are tracked from the point of filing. Clients receive advance notice of upcoming deadlines so decisions can be made without last-minute pressure.
Expertise & Approach
Intellectual property advisory for businesses in Thailand.
Thailand's intellectual property framework is administered by the Department of Intellectual Property under the Ministry of Commerce. The Trademark Act B.E. 2534 (1991), the Patent Act B.E. 2522 (1979), the Copyright Act B.E. 2537 (1994), and the Trade Secrets Act B.E. 2545 (2002) form the principal legislative foundation. Each statute has been amended and its administration refined over time, and keeping track of examination practice — not just the statute — is a significant part of providing reliable advice.
For businesses entering Thailand or expanding within Southeast Asia, the question of where to register and in what order matters practically. A Thai trademark registration protects the mark in Thailand only; regional coverage requires deliberate planning across multiple systems. The Madrid Protocol, to which Thailand acceded in 2017, offers one route. Direct national filings in individual ASEAN markets offer another. The right approach depends on where you are trading, where you are at risk, and what you can sustain in terms of registration costs.
Patent protection in Thailand presents its own strategic questions. The distinction between an invention patent and a petty patent is not merely technical — it is a decision about the depth and breadth of protection relative to the cost and time involved. For many manufacturing and product businesses operating at a regional scale, the petty patent is the more practical instrument. For innovations with a longer commercial horizon and genuine inventive step, the fuller examination process of an invention patent may be worth the additional investment.
Copyright and trade secret protection work differently — rights that arise without registration but require active management to be practically useful. Our advisory in these areas focuses on what a business can do structurally to make its rights defensible: the agreements it has in place, the documentation it maintains, and the internal processes it follows. Good copyright and trade secret protection is largely an administrative discipline, and we help businesses build that discipline in a way that suits how they actually operate.
